Roommates & Assignments

Overview

If you are assigned shared housing, you will be placed into housing accommodation with a roommate. Roommates are assigned based on a set of specific criteria outlined by Meta. Assignments will be primarily based on internship program start and end date, and secondarily based on the degree level of each intern so that you may begin to develop a network of colleagues close to your graduation year. 

The Housing Accommodation Survey will also include a short set of survey questions, including preference for same-sex or gender-inclusive pairing, which will be used as part of the roommate assignment process.

Can I have a relative or friend who is not a Meta intern be my roommate?

No, Meta is paying the rent and other expenses per housing accommodation; therefore staying in a housing accommodation provided by Meta is for Meta interns only.

What if I want to bring my girlfriend/boyfriend along with me to my internship?

Staying in housing accommodation provided by Meta is for Meta interns only. With the exception of spouses or eligible domestic partners, significant others may not stay in Meta provided housing accommodation.

Can my spouse live with me during my internship?

Yes, Meta provides individual housing accommodation for interns whose spouse or eligible domestic partner is accompanying them to their internship location for at least 75% of the internship’s duration. The Housing Accommodation Survey includes a question about marital status and if spouses and/or children will be accompanying the intern to the program location. Please contact us at meta@synergyhousing.com to discuss the number of children that will be accompanying an intern, and how many bedrooms are required.

How many people will there be per housing accommodation?

For shared housing accommodation, there will only be one person per bedroom in shared housing accommodation. The number of bedrooms within your housing accommodation could vary.

When will I know who my roommate is?

Your Synergy housing accommodation and roommate(s) will be assigned no less than 14 days prior to your program start date. Your Synergy Representative will e-mail your roommate's name and contact information, as well as your internship housing accommodation's address. Your housing accommodation number, detailed arrival instructions, and where to collect your keys will be e-mailed to you three business days prior to your move-in date. What if I do not get along with my roommate?

Our first request is that you try to work out the issue using open lines of communication and constructive feedback methods. If you are unable to work out your issues, contact us at meta@synergyhousing.com.
